An overview of Uganda's women making waves in technology

Ugandan female tech aficionados have made significant strides in the country and beyond borders. Many of them have made a name for themselves in various technology fields.

Some notable names in this sector have used their platform to open doors for fellow women to pursue careers in technology.

Here are some notable women in tech.

She's the founder of the Women in Technology Uganda (WITU) organisation. She is currently the director of Hive Colabo, a business hub, and accelerator for tech startups. Through her organisation, she inspires women entrepreneurs and young girls to take up science courses at higher institutions of learning.

She has also made an appearance on the international scene such as United Nations, New York Youth ECOSOC 2013, a panelist at Youth Mobile Experts Meeting- UNESCO in Paris, France, in Berlin for the Mobiles 4HD Workshop, in Bangkok for the Global Forum on Media and Gender, and Tanzania for Africa Prosperity Summit.

Dr. Okello is a computer scientist and the co-founder of the Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET). She has a strong career spanning over ten years on two continents (Africa and North America). She now builds the capacity of different African communities to deal with natural and man-made shocks and stresses.

She is also a leader of women in tech at different institutions and has a wealth of awards to show for her tremendous achievements.

Namara is a social entrepreneur and tech enthusiast. She is the founder of Vouch Digital and you can find her on Twitter giving out tech updates and social skills. She is also the founder of the Kampala Women in Tech (KWiT) community which is an empowerment networking platform for women in technology.

She is the founder of the Mbarara chapter of Women in Technology Uganda (WITU). She is a software engineer and mentors young women in technology. Her work has been recognised as TechWomen Emerging Leader.

Nanteza is a software developer with a passion to mentor and empower girls to pursue careers in technology. She is the co-founder of the Girls in ICT Uganda organisation. The International Telecommunication Union has recognised her work and achievements.

These are some of the women who are inspiring a new generation of women in technology. They are also building capacity in their communities using their skills and platforms to avail solutions in the country.
