This year's theme, Taking Turns with the Earth, highlights the intersection between culture, climate change, and environmental sustainability.
Recognising the growing impact of climate change on both the environment and the arts, the festival seeks to raise awareness about how artists contribute to environmental degradation and how they can play a role in preserving the environment.
A one-day symposium will feature panel discussions involving artists, civil society, and government officials, focusing on the role of the arts in environmental protection.
The festival will also showcase a diverse line-up of performances, including local talent like Jajja Timo, Essie Omweshongozi, and Haka Mukiga, as well as a special collaboration between German artists Hans-Kraus Hübner and Stefan Lienemann, and a Ugandan choir. The performance will premiere a unique four-part voice chorale, marking a significant cultural exchange between Uganda and Germany.
Pearl Rhythm Foundation, the organiser, has been championing indigenous Ugandan music since 2012. The foundation's Stage Coach Academy mentors emerging Ugandan artists, offering a platform for new talent to grow and thrive.
Selected artists undergo a three-month mentorship program before performing at the festival, furthering the mission of creating a vibrant, culturally-rooted music industry in Uganda.
The event is supported by Altdorf City, the French and German embassies, and UNCC. Tickets for the festival are available at the National Theatre, Alliance Française, and KARI TICKETS for UGX 50,000.
