Their song Bayethe competed with Gimme Love, Kenzo's collaboration with American singer Matt B.

After the concert, at 1:12am, Kenzo tweeted: "And the baby went to south African thank you for the support my people I'm forever grateful. Viva Uganda. this is just the beginning mbagala nyo [I love you so much]."

His second tweet, sent out at 9:56am, read: "For God and my country love and blessings 🇺🇬❤️ one day one time inshallah 🙏"

The awards were given out on Monday, February 6th at the Crypto.com Arena in Downtown Los Angeles, California, US.

The other contenders in the category Kenzo was nominated for were Burna Boy for his well-received ballad Last Last, Udhero Na brought in Pakistani Arooj Aftab and British American Anoushka Shankar, while Neva Bow Down scored Ghanaian Rocky Dawuni and Blvk H3ro a nomination.

The Recording Academy confirmed Eddy Kenzo as the first Ugandan ever to get a Grammy Awards nomination in January, ruling out the premise that the Abaduya music outfit was the first.

"Matt B and Kenzo got to celebrate their nomination together in Kenzo's native Uganda when it was announced. (It also marked a historic moment for Kenzo, who became the first Ugandan artist to receive a GRAMMY nomination)," the Recording Academy said in a blog post.

Their song has already won multiple awards, including two platinum gongs at the Muse Creative Awards and Muse Design Awards in September.

The song's audio was produced by Steyn, who is signed to Kenzo's music label, Big Talent Entertainment, and the video was directed by PhillyFlyBoy, assisted by Angela Benson, Matt B's wife.
