Awilo Longomba impresses as Afrigo mark 48 years of greatness

Congolese Afro-Soukous star Awilo Longomba was in town over the weekend to join Uganda’s oldest and most illustrious music group, Afrigo Band to celebrate 48 years on the music scene.

The legendary group marked the milestone at the 'Legends Of Sound' concert held at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel Gardens on Saturday June 5.

The show sold out quickly, and organizers were forced on D-DAY to allow more ticket sales and provide more room in the gardens for more revelers.

Hitting the stage at around 10 PM in the night, Awilo had everybody up to their feet, rocking and whining to some of his great hits. Some of the classics he performed include, Coupe Bibamba, Monyen Té, and Gate le Coin.

Later on, at the crowd's demand, he returned to the stage to do 'Carolina.' He also joined Afrigo to do ‘Jim Wange.’

With gates opened as early as 3 in the afternoon, the show was a thrilling marathon of performances ranging from DJs to an array of local artists.

Afrigo Band later came on to serenade the engaging crown with most of their golden songs .

The night was crowned with a surprise performance from Ugandan Legend Jose Chameleone.

The Valu Valu singer recently traveled back from the US with his family. He and his son, Abbah Marcus also got to meet the Congolese Lingala maestro backstage.

With nearly 5 decades now under the belt, Afrigo band has indeed left an indelible mark on Uganda’s entertainment industry.

The Legends Of Sound concert, if anything, did cement them as the greatest music group to ever walk this land.
