Its not yet clear when and where the Kenyan President was when making this revelation. The atmosphere around him in the video though suggests he was addressing a congregation that had convened for a reason yet to be known by this reporter.

Economic advisors David Ndii, Muhammed Hassan, Davis Kifkif and Muhammed Epera. Those four gentlemen have done something phenomenal in our country. They have managed to put in place a programme that has taken us away from looking for $500m every month to meet our fuel needs which was slowly snowballing into a crisis. Today as a country, we can buy fuel in Kenyan currency something that many people thought would never be possible,” he said.

Ruto also revealed Kenyan marketeers in the fuel industry will now be able to buy fuel products in Kenyan shilling, and hoped that the move will strengthen the Kenyan shilling against the American dollar.

From this month of April all our fuel marketeers. All people in that space will be able to buy fuel products in Kenyan shillings and it will remove pressure on our dollars. In fact, in the coming months we will see dollars coming down, the exchange rate coming down. In fact, in the couple of months, the exchange rate against the dollar will come below Kenyan sh120, maybe hopefully below sh115,” he said.
