Captain Milton Karisa scored the solitary goal of the match earning Uganda the precious three points in the second group stage match. The win hoists Uganda to the top of the group having amassed four points in two matches.

Cranes goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi kept Uganda in the game to deny the Lions of Teranga an early lead saving an indirect freekick and later a penalty kick.

His heroics kept Uganda in the game and ensured the Cranes went with the slim lead into the break.

Playing with intensity and intent, Uganda were a much-organized side and went on to keep the lead into the second half. A frustrated Senegal would go one man down after substitute Mame Libasse Laye Ngom was shown straight red for a reckless foul just seven minutes from stoppage time.

The win boosts Uganda’s chances of progressing to the knock out stages of the tournament for the first time in six attempts.

Uganda face Ivory Coast in the final group game match on Sunday.
