The minister who was appearing on a televised panel discussing the end of Ebola outbreak under the theme, the end of Ebola Sudan outbreak, argued that the ministry would need ready resources since Uganda is prone to epidemics

Aceng said having ready resources would enable the health ministry have trained personnel who they could deploy as soon as there’s an outbreak.

We need to have ready resources for epidemics since our country is prone to them. These resources would enable us train our personnel and deploy as soon as there’s an outbreak,” she said.

She revealed that the health ministry has so far trained up to 195,000 Village Health Teams (VHT) nationwide to gather information using the door-to-door systems. She however said that remuneration of these teams still remains a challenge which is a demotivating factor.

Aceng said despite the fact that Ebola is no more, community surveillance will continue to avoid any abrupt surprises.

For the next 90 days, we are going to continue with community surveillance, including mortality (among the dead) surveillance," she said.

The minister who thanked people of both Kassanda and Mubende for enduring the lockdown, said risk door-to-door communication will continue.

When the audience asked Aceng about payment of security workers, she referred them to their line ministries.

Those who come as medical workers are paid a risk allowance by the Ministry of Health, but does not cater for their salaries. If we deploy them from one district to another, we pay them perdiem. The security workers should therefore refer to their line ministries,” she said.
