The festival is organized by the Forum for Women in Development (FOWODE) and partners, with the aim of highlighting socio-economic issues affecting girls and young women.
The event is slated for this weekend September 16, at Lugogo Kati Kati Grounds.
The festival was officially unveiled at the FOWODE offices this week with some notable figures such as singer Lydia Jazmine and Hannah Karema the Miss Uganda 2023, in attendance
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Solome Nakaweesi, a Pan-African Feminist Activist and Chairperson at FOWODE said the festival will bring girls together, offering them the chance to connect with their role models, voice their thoughts, and gain invaluable guidance on navigating the world as women, among other insightful experiences.
“I personally am who I am today because other people were willing to help me and hold my hand along the way that’s why I’m super excited to mentor other girls with the Imara Women’s Centre,” she added.
This year, the festival is running under the theme; “Interrogating The Diversity of Spaces for Women in Politics, Economics, Arts, and Business.”
Nakaweesi revealed that a thought-provoking panel discussion will be a focal point of the festival, providing a platform for profound conversations on these crucial topics.
Singer Lydia Jazmine, who has faced her own challenges in her charitable organization, expressed her motivation for participating in the Imara Girls Festival.
“I have always nurtured the aspiration of empowering girls and women through my organization. Recognizing that the festival aligns with this very goal, I felt compelled to join forces with them,” she said.
Other artists expected to take part in the festival include Karole Kasita, Sandra Sub, and Martha Mukisa.
