NUP President Bobi Wine has condemned the widespread violence unleashed on his supporters by security forces during the recently concluded Kawempe North by-election.
Speaking in the aftermath of the election which saw a resounding victory for his party candidate Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, Bobi Wine expressed concern about the mistreatment of NUP supporters, especially the “foot soldiers,” who are often identified by their distinctive red jumpsuits and berets.
The NUP supporters, particularly those wearing red jumpsuits, were subjected to severe brutality by officers from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), the police, and the Joint Anti-Terrorism (JAT) unit.
These attacks had begun earlier, on Bobi Wine’s birthday, when the foot soldiers organised a surprise parade for him at the party offices.
The sight of Bobi Wine and his wife inspecting the "red army" caught the attention of security forces, who responded by arresting and beating up party leaders and raising their offices in Makerere Kavule and training institute in Kamwokya.

The Foot Soldiers' Loyalty and Discipline
Addressing the press yesterday however, Bobi Wine said that the incredible discipline and coordination of his foot soldiers could be attributed to the red jumpsuits and berets they wear.
He suggested that these uniforms act as a reminder of their unity and commitment to the cause.
I actually feel bad for these people (in government). Do you know what these foot soldiers would become if they took off those uniforms?
Museveni should be pleased that these men still have those uniforms because that is the one thing that keeps them disciplined.
It is those uniforms that prevent them from going wild. Should we tell them to take them off one day and see what happens?
Despite the harassment, Bobi Wine expressed pride in his supporters' resilience and coordination throughout the entire ordeal, calling the victory a testament to the party's strength and unity.
