Phiona Nyamutoro, the Minister of State for Minerals in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, has confirmed her intention to contest for the Nebbi District Woman Member of Parliament (MP) seat.
She is the National Female Youth MP, which only allows one to occupy it for one term of five years.
So far, five young candidates have expressed interest in succeeding her as National Female Youth MP. They include: Gold Ikyiriza, Siyemah Atukunda, Mercy Kanyesigye, Ampaire Diana Kampe, and Pretty Susan Katusiime.
Nyamutoro’s decision has sparked a wave of reactions from both supporters and fellow leaders, especially as she prepares to challenge the incumbent Agnes Acibu, who also belongs to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Her move has already sparked mixed reactions across political circles, with opinions pouring in from fellow leaders and observers alike, some of which are captured below.
