As the head of state for the past 37 years, Museveni said last weekend that he is working hard to absolve himself of the accusation that his reign has benefitted only the people around him, while the rest of the country remained impoverished.
“What we don't want is for the Kaguta family to change as the other Ugandans remain behind. This one I cannot do,” said President Museveni Saturday.
“Because I am also looking forward to going to heaven. What will happen when I go to heaven and God asks why I managed to change my family and did not help other Ugandans? I will simply say I told them but they refused to listen.”
President Museveni was speaking at the passing out ceremony of 4,212 local defense graduands in Olilim, in Katakwi district.
The president emphasized that social social-economic transformation of all Ugandans is an integral part of his leadership and it is the 3rd principle of the NRM.
Museveni told the trainees that economic transformation is possible whether one is educated or not.
“The channel for transformation is first through education; but even if you are not educated but are able to go out and work for an income, you can still change even better than the highly educated.”
In order to transform Karamoja sub region, President Museveni promised government intervention to ensure food security, and later commercial agriculture.
“We have agreed with the leaders that we must defeat hunger first. We are going to bring enough tractors and grow enough food collectively and individually,” he said.
The President on the other hand appealed to the graduands to always live healthily and be disciplined if they want to serve Ugandans for long.
