Dr. Hilderman, the singer and Mawokota North MP, has said that he will not run in the 2026 parliamentary elections unless he secures the National Unity Platform (NUP) card.

He made these remarks on Tuesday, April 8, during an appearance on Sanyuka TV, following speculations about his strained relationship with NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.

"If I don’t have the NUP card, I won’t contest, but I will remain loyal and continue to serve the party diligently," Dr. Hilderman, whose real name is Hillary Innocent Kiyaga, said, before clarifying his stance.

"While the card is important, my top priority is transforming our nation through my party. I value my party more than just holding a card. This is a generational movement, and I believe in the vision—we must build it together. Our mission is to drive change in this country, with or without the card."

Speculation about a rift between Dr. Hilderman and Kyagulanyi emerged after he seemed to side with former NUP deputy president Mathias Mpuuga, who was censured by the opposition party for accepting a controversial Shs500 million service award in 2022.

When the motion to censure Mpuuga was brought forward, Dr. Hilderman chose to remain silent, citing his respect for Mpuuga, a fellow Catholic and role model.

"Even court judges are advised to step aside in cases involving relatives to avoid conflicting interests," he said. "I failed to decide on Mpuuga because of conflicting interest; he is my fellow Catholic and Muganda who has been guiding me and serving as my role model. How do you expect me to judge him?"

Dr. Hilderman emphasised the importance of avoiding conflicts of interest, explaining that he preferred to assess the situation carefully rather than rush to judgement.

"Was I expected to condemn him to crucifixion? It was necessary for me to remain silent, as that is the level of respect instilled in us from a young age. It is preferable to keep quiet rather than risk bringing harm," he said.

"Integrity has always been a part of my character, which is why I made the decision to stay silent. In my silence, I opt to analyze the situation thoroughly."

Despite the speculations, Dr. Hilderman assured viewers that he remains on good terms with Bobi Wine, describing their relationship as "smooth."

He added that Bobi Wine continues to advise him and assign him tasks.
