The Ministry of Health has moved to clarify recent media reports suggesting a rise in COVID-19 cases in Uganda.

According to the Ministry, the circulating messages are simply old videos being re-shared by individuals attempting to mislead the public.

Dr. Charles Olaro, Director General of Health Services, reassured Ugandans that there is no resurgence of the virus in the country.

"The national situation remains stable and fully under control since the end of the major COVID-19 outbreak three years ago," Dr. Olaro said.

It continues to keep track of new strains of the virus reported globally and works with relevant stakeholders to ensure the public’s safety.

Uganda benefits from a robust surveillance and response system, which remains fully operational and capable of addressing any potential public health threats.

The Ministry advised that anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms similar to COVID-19 should visit the nearest health facility for appropriate treatment.

It also encouraged the public to continue following good hygiene practices, including frequent handwashing with clean water and soap or using an alcohol-based sanitizer.
