Masaka Chief Magistrate Abdallah Kayiza has on Tuesday committed Edward Ssebuufu aka Eddy Mutwe to the High Court for the commencement of his trial.

The court also ordered his transfer from Masaka General Prison to the Murchison Bay Prison in Luzira, where he can access better treatment.

The order followed a request by Mutwe’s lawyers for the court to take note of his condition.

In the court, Mutwe, who heads opposition leader Bobi Wine’s security, appeared in poor shape. He was shaking uncontrollably and gave uncoordinated answers to questions.

His lawyers said they were concerned about his mental health, owing to the psychological torture he endured in detention.

The charges

Mutwe has been on remand since May 5th, when he was released from captivity, where he was alleged tortured by military operatives

At the time of his release, he was unable to walk on his own and had to be helped by police officers into the courtroom.

Here he was charged with Robbery and Aggravated Robbery along with other NUP members

The charges brought against Mutwe reportedly stem from a crime committed in Manja in Lwengo district.

The same charges were earlier brought against other NUP activists, Acleo Kivumbi, Wasabi and Gafaffi.
