NUP head of security Eddy Mutwe has been released by his captors, after disappearing for over the a week, and arraigned before court in Masaka.
Mutwe, whose name is Edward Ssebuufu was taken before Masaka Grade One Magistrate Abdullah Kayiza.
At the court, he arrived in a saloon car, barely able to walk on his own, and had to be helped by police officers into the court room.
Here he was charged with Robbery and Aggregated Robbery according to his lawyers.
Journalists were barred from accessing the court room.
NUP president Bobi Wine confirmed the development, positing on Tuesday, “Our brother Eddie Mutwe has been dumped in Masaka, and remanded to Masaka Main Prison, badly tortured and in great pain. Journalists were blocked from covering him.”
The charges brought against Mutwe reportedly stem from a crime committed in Manja in Length district.
The same charges were earlier brought against other NUP activists Acleo Kivumbi, Wasabi and Gafaffi.
Mutwe told lawyers that he was severely beaten throughout the length of his captivity.
He said he was beaten with electing cables, electrocuted and had his private parts pulled five times a day.
Upon being read the charges, he was demanded to Masaka Prison.
