The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi today, Sunday April 13 celebrated his 70th birthday.

The monarch marked the landmark with a church service held at Lubaga Cathedral in Kampala.

The event was preceded last week by the annual Kabaka Birthday run, which attracted a record-breaking 120,000 participants.

The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has appointed Brigadier General Chris Bagonza as the new Chief of Staff for the UPDF Land Forces (COS LF), according to Colonel Chris Magezi, the Acting Director of Defence Public Information.

The church service was attended by a select number of guests, including political leaders, clerics, officials from Buganda Kingdom and other dignitaries.

Among these was NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

Interestingly, the opposition leader sat next to his former party Vice President and Nyendo Mukungwe, MP Mathias Mpuga.

The two do not see eye to eye following a fall-out sparked by Mpuuga’s decision not to return a Shs 500 million “service award” from Parliament, which his then party deemed a bribe.

The fall out culminated in the party’s dismissal of Mpuuga from his position as Vice President in March last year.

He later formed his own political front, the Democratic Alliance, in December 2024.

During today’s service, Bobi Wine and Mpuuga were seen engaged in what seemed to be a deep conversation, often breaking into smiles.

It was unclear whether the seating arrangement was spontaneous or arranged by the service organisers.
