Uganda continues to experience fast population growth, with nearly half of its 45.9 million citizens under the age of 14.

The need to prioritise child health, education, and family well-being has never been more critical.

In response to these growing demands, Kiara Events Limited has officially announced the third edition of the Baby & Kids Expo East Africa, scheduled to take place from 9th to 11th May 2025 at the UMA Multipurpose Hall, Lugogo.

This year’s Expo, themed “Strengthening Families Through Healthcare, Growth, and Zero Violence”, will bring together parents, expectant mothers, children, and key players from the public and private sectors to engage in meaningful dialogue and activities that promote holistic child development and safe family environments.

A Platform for Empowering Families

The Baby & Kids Expo is more than just an exhibition—it’s a family movement. As Joweria Nabuuma, Managing Director of Kiara Events, emphasised, the event aims to equip families with essential knowledge and practical tools for nurturing children.

“This year’s edition will feature a robust lineup of products and services designed to support child wellness,” she said.

“We’re also offering expert-led sessions on topics such as raising children with special needs, mental health, first aid, and value-based parenting.

Beyond the exhibition booths, the Expo will include health talks, free vaccinations, triage services, and specialised focus sessions for children with Down syndrome, autism, and neonatal conditions, facilitated by the Children’s Clinic.

Government Support and Community Engagement

Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, praised the initiative, stating, “This event is incredibly timely. With 44% of our population under 14, Uganda’s future rests in its children. We must take action to ensure they grow up in safe, loving homes.”

The Expo comes amid alarming statistics that 75% of young adults in Uganda experienced some form of violence during childhood. With 6,505 neglect cases recorded and high incidences of abuse, the theme of “zero violence” resonates deeply.

Supporting partners like UZAZI Hub, Kids Nook, Movit’s Baby Junior, and The Cradle bring both innovation and heartfelt commitment.

From hospital bag packages for new mums to educational toy demonstrations and expert skincare advice, the Expo blends care with creativity.

Entertainment from Verina Play House promises fun for the little ones, while parents engage in informative sessions and meaningful connections.

Looking Ahead: A Call for Collective Action

With sponsorship from the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Nation Media Group, and several family-focused organisations, the 2025 Baby & Kids Expo positions itself as a vital contributor to child rights and development in East Africa.
