Instead, she said, the soldiers should explore the good options available in UPDF schools and other universal primary and secondary education schools (UPE and USE).
That way, the SFC commander said, UPDF parents will be able to save up a little more to start up businesses that will enhance their incomes.
“UPE and USE schools were put in place by His Excellency the president to ensure that parents who cannot afford to pay in private schools can still take their kids to school,” she said.
“As servicemen, it is important that we avoid overstretching ourselves looking for big monies to take our children to private schools. Much as we prefer private schools, there are still schools in place including army schools.”
“We should all be taking our children to these schools so that we can save and engage in other endeavors….that extra money paid in private schools could be used to start up a poultry or piggery that could give you an extra income.”
Bainabaabo was speaking at a thanksgiving event for some of the SFC-supported schools in Entebbe Municipality, for the good performance registered in the last Primary Leaving Exams.
Bainabaabo told the soldiers that the SFC and the government have put in a lot of resources to ensure that academic performance improves in these schools.
To the children, she urged them to maintain discipline and focus on their studies as they head to secondary school
“I urge you to choose your priorities carefully and focus on them. Don't get involved in drugs and homosexuality… all you need is education,” she said.
