His song will be added to the World Cup’s pool of global songs.

Ykee Benda was granted the opportunity by Tim Horwood, an executive creative director at Mashoba Media.

Horwood joined Coke Studio Africa in 2016 as creative director and it was easier for him to connect and relate with Ykee Benda’s music when he joined the project last year -- Horwood was awarded the contract by Coca-Cola to produce the Southern and East African music adaptations for the World Cup.

Speaking about his World Cup 2018 deal, Ykee Benda said the opportunity to represent Uganda through music at the FIFA World Cup 2018 was a surprise and couldn’t believe that he was going to be part of it.

“For a long time, I didn’t talk about it because we weren’t allowed to talk about it. The news was itching me alone. I never dreamed about this opportunity in my life. It’s mind-blowing and I thank God. Someone is out there watching out for Ykee Benda and thinking that I deserve it,” he said.

African artistes will add their local flavor and represent their regions to expose audiences to global diversity.

Diamond Platinumz will represent Tanzania, Sami Dan from Ethiopia and James from Mozambique

World Cup will be held from 14 Jun 2018 – 15 Jul 2018 in Russia.
