Ugandan singer Ykee Benda has revealed the real reason why he didnt perform at the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Russia.

Benda was among the pool of musicians who were selected in Africa to remix the official World Cup song with Jason Derulo and add "their local flavour and represent their regions to expose audiences to global diversity".

His fans were however left disappointed when their musician was no show at the opening ceremony despite having a song with Derulo.

In an interview, Benda states that performing at the World Cup wasn't part of the package deal but when he heard media and fans hyping him, he let the rhythm of the news continue.

He says he also exaggerated the whole 'performing at the World Cup' because he would have loved it to happen.

"It just makes sense. When you feature on an official World Cup song, you're expected to perform it," Benda added.

The singer maintains that he will go to Russia to watch the final game of the World Cup on July 15th in Moscow.
