National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU) has issued a 3-months ultimatum to government over proposal salary increment.
The association rejected the proposed pay rise announced by Secretary to Treasury Keith Muhakanizi saying it is not what was agreed upon and falls below their demands.
“To this effect, we would like to reject the estimated proposal of salaries declared on 20th March, 2018 announced by the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to Treasury, Mr. Keith Muhakanizi, that this is not the agreed position of the workers and government,” NOTU Secretary General Christopher Werikhe said.
It was agreed that a medical doctor earns a minimum of UGX5m while an enrolled nurse earns UGX2.1m, according to NOTU; rather than the proposed pay rise of UGX2.7m for doctors and UGX600,000 for an enrolled nurse.
Last year, Public service minister Muluri Mukasa announced that government would start enhancing salaries of public servants in phases starting with primary school teachers, secondary school science teachers, soldiers, police officers, judiciary officers, health workers and all scientists in government ministries or departments.
National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU) chairperson Usher Wilson Owere warned of a possible industrial action including withdraw of labor with effect from June 23, 2018
