A group of activists is planning to march protest against the unresolved & continued kidnaps, murder, torture of women & children in Uganda -- and thats why
Hundreds of people are expected to march in the CBD on Saturday 30th to raise awareness and express displeasure in the government's failure to adequately address the security concerns surrounding Ugandans, especially women and children.
Since last year, over 42 women have been gruesomely killed in the country and security agencies have not conclusively issued a report.
This year alone, at least 82 cases of kidnap and murders involving women have been recorded between February and June.
One million march
The march is organise by Women’s Protest Working Group and will be spearheaded by the controversial Ugandan scholar Dr Stella Nyanzi. It will be held at Centenary Park starting from 10am.
Activists will march from the Centenary Park to Railways Grounds along Jinja Road
Security
Inspector General of Police Martins Okoth Ochola on Wednesday blocked the request by the Women's Protest Working Group to hold a peaceful demonstration. Police officers are expected to be deployed heavily in the CBD to stop the demonstration.
The organisers are hoping police will provide officers "to protect the marchers, traffic police to ensure every road user is safe".
Victims families
Apart from raising awareness on the security of women and children, 'One Million March' organisers hope to raise funds to support the victims families through sale of merchandise.
