Ugandas longest serving President Kaguta Museveni, 73, on Thursday received the Global Peace Award from Global Peace Foundation.
He received the award at the Global Peace Leadership conference which concludes on Friday in Uganda's capital, Kampala.
The three-day conference which started on August 1st seeks to promote and achieve a "world of peace".
The Global Peace Awards "honour government, civil society and faith leaders whose exemplary efforts have significantly improved the lives of others".
Why Museveni?
Museveni, Uganda's leader since 1986, was honoured for his "leading peace efforts and initiatives in the Great Lakes region and beyond".
He continues to play a key mediation role in resolving conflicts in the neighbouring South Sudan and Burundi.
The president of Global Peace Foundation Uganda Chapter and Peace Service says Museveni has been part of the "global conversation for unification fo South and North Korea".
Museveni, who now has a chance to rule for life after a court ruling, has displayed "courage, exemplary democratic and global leadership".
Uganda is hosting the conference after Kenya (2010), USA (2012), Malaysia (2013), Paraguay (2014) and Philippines (2017).
