The government will seal off borders and restrict transportation of animals as part of new strategies to combat animal diseases in the South Western corridor.

The new strategies were announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries after meeting with stakeholders and local leaders.

The move comes in the wake of unprecedented outbreaks of animal diseases.

The ministry says the animal disease have caused poor quality products and economic loss.

About 29 districts across the country are under quarantine due to several animal diseases including  Foot and Mouth Disease-FMD, Contiguous Bovine Pleuropneumonia-CBPP, Goat Plague, Tick-Borne Diseases among others.

The government spent UGX10bn in the financial year 2017/18 on the procurement of vaccines.
