Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is expected to arrive in Uganda on Friday, 8th June, for a two day state visit.
Ahmed will be the Chief Guest at national Heroes' Day celebrations on Saturday where he will be awarded with a special medal of The Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa – The Grand Master.
He will be honored for his contribution towards the independence struggle in Africa, Uganda's minister for presidency Esther Mbayo said.
He will become the second African leader to receive such award from Uganda after Equatorial Guinea’s Teodoro Obiang Mbasogo.
Ahmed is also expected to hold a bilateral meeting with President Museveni and hold joint press conference.
National Heroes Day recognises Ugandans who sacrificed their lives in the struggle to achieve democracy, peace and independence.
About 250 medals will be awarded to different persons recognizing them for their contribution.
The celebrations will be held at Birembo sub-county in Kakumiro District
