Assange made the statement following news of President Donald Trump’s pick for the CIA director, Gina Haspel.

In a tweet, Assange said Donald Trump’s pick for CIA makes the U.S. look like Uganda under Idi Amin.
“Appointing an actual pliers and tongs torturer to head up the CIA makes the U.S. look like Uganda under Idi Amin,” he tweeted.

Idi Amin was the president of Uganda from 1971 to 1979
His regime is synonymous with rampant human rights abuses, political repression, ethnic persecution, extrajudicial killings, nepotism, corruption, and gross economic mismanagement.
