Uganda's ethics minister wants Nyege Nyege festival stopped over homosexuality
Ugandas Ethics and Integrity Minister Simon Lokodo wants Nyege Nyege festival stopped. Its the countrys biggest annual festival which attracts thousands of people.
In a letter dated September 3rd. Lokodo says he has received credible information that the purpose of the festival is to recruit young people into homosexuality and LGBT movement.
"The practice of deviant sexual behaviours have never been condoned in this country...it's our responsibility as a government to protect the citizens against such vices," part of the letter reads.
The minister adds that the event "may compromise the national integrity of our nation and put our citizens at risk of deviant sexual immorality".
He requested the Inspector General of Police Okoth Ochola to stop Nyege Nyege festival and engage with stakeholders on the way forward.
Nyege Nyege festival starts September 6th and ends September 9th at Nile Discovery along the River Nile in the eastern district of Jinja.
