The office of Inspector General of Government (IGG) on June 5th issued a directive suspending Prophet Mbonye Ministries from using Lugogo Cricket Oval for prayers every Tuesday.
The move to suspend the contract between National Council of Sports (NCS) and Prophet Mbonye Ministries is intended to allow a systematic review of operations ad management of NCS.
The suspension is also aimed at allowing the continuity of cricket activities to make it possible for them to prepare for various tournaments since "cricketers cannot play the game in any place of worship".
Uganda Radio Network reports that the two entities entered into a two year contract worth UGX200m -- and that's how much NSC is likely have to cough if the suspension becomes permanent.
IGG Irene Mulyagonja didn't specify when the Lugogo Cricket Oval can be accessed for prayers.
She requested the solicitor general and the permanent secretary/secretary to the treasury and the auditor general "to take interest in this matter and participate in bringing about order in the sports industry in Uganda".
Prophet Mbonye Ministries previously used Kyadondo Rugby Grounds before moving to Lugogo Cricket Oval for their prayers on Ma 15th
