The Starehe Girls Centre has been closed indefinitely after 52 students were reported to have been isolated for days, due to an unknown disease.

This comes after the school's administration on Tuesday last week disclosed that samples had been taken from the affected students.
The unknown disease displayed symptoms of a high-pitched cough and fever among the isolated girls.

"The Starehe Girls' community confirms that there has been an increasing number of cases presenting with an unknown cause of high pitched cough, sneezing and low-grade fever among students," the school's administration said in a statement.

The learning institution informed parents, guardians and stakeholders, that they were working with the Health Ministry and the department of Integrated Disease Surveillance Response (IDRS)Â to establish the cause of the strange disease.
