“Absenteeism continues to be the biggest challenge the education sector faces. I call upon head teachers and the Ministry of Education and Sports to carry out strict supervision of the culpable staff,” he said.

He added: “The outlook of the results could have been better if our teachers were rendering the services within the approved and designated time.”

Muyingo also called upon candidates to not only consider joining university, but also look into other opportunities such as joining tertiary institutes.

While the attraction of university education appears to remain strong, we wish to appeal to our young people to take advantage of the many opportunities available in other tertiary institutions outside universities,” he said.

The UNEB executive secretary, Daniel Odongo, revealed during the release of results that examination malpractice was low this time around.

I am glad to reveal that examination malpractice remained low in the UACE exams. There are only a few cases such as external assistance,” he said.

Odongo said that only 113 candidates’ results will be withheld by UNEB but will be accorded a gearing before a final decision is made.

In accordance with Section 4 (3) of the UNEB Act, 2021, the Board, has withheld results of 113 candidates, and will accord the affected candidates a fair hearing before passing a final verdict,” Odongo said.
