Police are investigating an incident in which a senior government official lost the keys to a container in which the upcoming national examination papers are stored, leading to her interdiction and arrest.

Lukenya Assistant County Commissioner Ms. Elizabeth Karitu was interdicted and arrested after losing the keys after her car was reportedly broken into with the thieves making away with her purse.

She was apprehended on Saturday night and taken to Parklands police station where she was detained.

Machakos County Commissioner Elizabeth Maina confirmed the incident, stating that the container is under tight security.

“She claims she went to Avenue Hospital in Nairobi and when she returned she found her car had been broken into and her handbag, which contained the keys, missing”. Stated Ms. Maina.

She added that “Security has been beefed up where the container is and efforts made with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to replace the padlock immediately”.

Ms. Kiritu has since been interdicted with plans underway to replace her.
