Gen. Kale Kayihura has finally handed over the Inspector General of Police office two weeks after being sacked by President Museveni.
The former IGP Kale Kayihura was replaced by his deputy Martin Ochola Okoth.
Speaking at the hand over ceremony, Kayihura boasted of his record in the police force citing low levels of crime as one of his major achievements.
“Crime situation as I hand-over continues to be on a downward trend since 2006. There was slight increase in crime in 2017. During my tenure, crime came down and you can’t rub that from my record,” he said.
The former IGP also highlighted inadequate finances as one of the major challenge in the police force during his tenure.
“In spite of the demands of the Police overtime, the budget is still being cut. We appreciate that there has been an increase in our budget since 2005 but what we have now is still not enough though it looks big,” Kayihura said.
Gen. Kale Kayihura also thanked the president for entrusting him with such a huge role and that he will remain a loyal cadre.
"I’ll forever be indebted to the Commander in Chief and the president for his trust and giving me the opportunity to serve my country in this capacity. He has promoted me through the ranks and that’s not a small achievement," he said
Kale Kayihura has been Inspector General of Police since 2005.
