Ruto meets Raila at his Capitol Hill Square Office

Leaders from Kericho and Bomet counties met with African Union envoy Raila Odinga at his Capitol Hill Square offices.

Former Bomet governor Isaac Ruto led the delegation in the Tuesday meeting.

Others who accompanied Mr Ruto are former Cabinet Secretaries Franklin Bett and Paul Sang.

Former Kuresoi South MP Zakayo Cheruiyot was also among the leaders who attended the meeting.

Female deputy governor

This comes in the background of a hot battle to fill the position of the deputy governor in Bomet after the death of Joyce Laboso.

Reports have been swirling that Laboso's kin have been keen on eyeing the deputy governor's office which is empty.

Hillary Barchok is expected to be will be sworn in on Thursday to officially take over the county's leadership.

Area MPs said that as a mark of solidarity and in honor of Laboso, they were committed to backing Barchok to serve the remaining term as governor.

Pressure is also mounting on Barchok to nominate a woman as his deputy once he assumes office.
