According to Citizen, the former Prime Minister’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango said in a statement that he had travelled to Tanzania for a day, to attend Monica Magufuli’s burial.

“President Magufuli and the Odinga families are close friends,” read the statement.

Odinga travelled to Mwanza in the company of National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohammed and they are both expected back in the country on Wednesday.

Monica who had been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit for a number of days is reported to have succumbed to a heart problem.

“I have learnt with sorrow of the passing of Ms. Monica Joseph Magufuli, sister to H.E President My sincere condolences to the family and the people of Tanzania at this time of mourning. We are together in sorrow,” said Raila Odinga in his condolence message.
