A wall fence of the hotel was destroyed by the floods on Thursday.

The heavy floods reportedly swept away several people including motorcyclists as reports indicate possible deaths and missing persons.

Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira says a search and rescue team has been dispatched for operations.

“We have not yet got the exact number of people that were washed away by the water but we have recovered one body and 5 motorcycles but our rescue team is working and still searching for other bodies that could be in river Rwizi and in the neighboring areas,” Samson Kasasira says.

Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo voiced concern saying blocking natural water ways will continue to cause such destruction.

“Until we environment destruction like blocking natural water run off ways, this is what we shall reap,” he said.
