Pope Francis' "cars" go missing in Uganda
Ugandas Parliament has questioned officials from the Office of the President over the whereabouts Pope Francis cars.
Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee wants to know where the two cars which were procured at UGX322m in 2015 to transport the Pope Francis during his first papal visit in the East African nation.
The office of the Auditor General didn't locate the vehicles -- a KIA and Mitsubishi pickup -- and a review failed to confirm their existence, NTV Uganda reports.
Officials from the Office of The President, however, insisted that the two cars are parked at the Ministry of Transport.
Questionable cost of procurement
MPs sitting on the Public Accounts Committee raised the concern over the cost of the two vehicles which were procured in 2015.
Documents presented before the parliamentary committee revealed that about UGX133m was spent on the KIA vehicle and the Mitsubishi pickup cost about UGX188m.
"Apparently this is one of the popes we have had who doesn't use expensive cars. According to the cost here, we are seeing UGX322m for a pope who doesn't even use these vehicles to carry his small bag," MP Joseph Sewungu queried.
