Police have issued a statement after reports that over 4,000 guns are missing in their classified stores.

The force's spokesperson Emilian Kayima says the "story is a hoax and should be treated with the contempt it deserves".

Earlier reports indicate that security bodies CMI and ISO are investigating police's classified stores.

In a statement seen by Pulse Live Uganda, Kayima states that there are no investigations by CMI and ISO.

"There is no investigation whatsoever in as far as the procurement of our aircrafts is concerned," part of the statement reads.

Kayima says the reports are "biased and irresponsible" -- and can endanger national security.
