Police clarify on IGP Ochola's speech 'which could raise suspicions of political bias'
Police have issued a statement saying a video clip of IGP Okoth Ochola's clip in Kajjansi was edited.
The spokesperson Enanga Fred says the video was edited and 'crucial message' was left out.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Enanga notes that the video was edited to portray 'IGP as imparting a particular political message which could raise suspicions of political bias or agenda'.
In the viral clip, IGP is quoted as saying: "One time it went viral when some police officers in Kajjansi were torturing some people for being members of people power? So, is it an offence to be a member of people power? Under which section of the penal code?"
People power is a collective political movement led by Bobi Wine to garner support ahead of 2021 presidential elections
"We want to reiterate that the IGP is not into divisive politics, and we would like to caution media actors on the importance of reporting of basic facts, to avoid deliberate manipulations misleading the public about the validity and relevance of public statements," part of the statement reads.
