But where did the name Vamposs originate from?

It goes back to his high school days at Namasagali College in Kamuli district.

That was where he met Benon to start their music journey. There he also met Juliana Kanyomozi and Maurice Kirya.

One time, he was involved in an act of indiscipline that earned him a long suspension from the school.

He, however, decided not to leave school, choosing instead to spend the entire suspension duration hiding in the dormitory ceiling.

His friends, who were in on the secret had to play along and avoid mentioning his name whenever they needed to communicate with him. So they named him “Vampire.”

Every time they brought me food they said they were taking it to ‘our vampire,’” Vampino recalled.

“I spent the days in the ceiling and only came out at night briefly to check on my guys.”

The name stuck around after school and when he came to Kampala, he decided to change it to Vamposs, and later on Vampino.

Benon and Vampino then went on to start up Swangz Avenue where the latter was kicked out of soon after.

Vampino later opted for a solo career and Mugumbya decided to focus on music production.

As a solo artist, he collaborated with some musicians to release well-received jams, including Kwekunyakunya (featuring Keko, Juliana Kanyomozi and Cinderella Sanyu) and Tell It with Radio and Weasel.

He even has a song with his brother Maurice Kirya titled Nyongera. Since the release of Smart Wire about seven years ago.
