National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba has revealed the party’s next move after their candidate Nabeta Igime Nathan lost Jinja East by-election to FDC’s Paul Mwiru.
The ruling party is now moving to court to challenge the outcome of the election citing several election malpractices including voter bribery and multiple voting.
“We were in possession of evidence of multiple voting of known members of opposition at various polling stations. We have evidence of opposition teams dishing out money in the vicinity of polling stations. We have given whatever we have gathered to the legal team to examine and advise us on what decision to take,” Justine Kasule Lumumba said.
Paul Mwiru defeated Igime Nathan Nabeta on Thursday after garnering 6,654 votes and 5,043 votes respectively.
On January 12, 2018, Court of Appeal nullified the election of Nathan Igime Nabeta and ordered for fresh elections over falsification of results from one polling station which affected the results of the entire constituency.
