This event, held at the State House in Harare on Wednesday, March 13, marks the beginning of Amoru's diplomatic mission and signifies the enduring friendship and future cooperation between Uganda and Zimbabwe.

Amoru relayed heartfelt greetings and well wishes from Uganda's President, Yoweri Museveni, underscoring the strong bond and excellent relations that both nations enjoy.

President Mnangagwa expressed a warm reception towards Ambassador Amoru, noting the historical and strong diplomatic ties dating back to the liberation era.

He particularly appreciated Uganda’s efforts in advocating for the removal of sanctions against Zimbabwe, highlighting the shared commitment to regional and global advocacy.

During the ceremony, Amoru thanked President Mnangagwa for the chance to bolster diplomatic relations and recognized Mnangagwa’s participation in significant summits held in Uganda, which served to reinforce their mutual Pan-African vision and historical connections.

Amoru outlined the priorities under Uganda’s Chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, focusing on addressing challenges faced by Least Developed Countries (LDCs) through trade, technology, environmental sustainability, and security.

Both leaders acknowledged the importance of reactivating the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) and setting up a Joint Business Forum to explore cooperation in mining, tourism, agriculture, and education. These initiatives aim to improve living standards and promote economic growth.

Amoru also appreciated the contributions of the Ugandan diaspora to Zimbabwe’s key sectors and thanked Zimbabwe for its hospitality.

The discussions touched upon significant milestones and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) that have strengthened bilateral ties.

President Mnangagwa praised the work of the previous High Commissioner, Barbra Nekesa Oundo, and reiterated the value of high-level exchanges in fostering relations. He also thanked President Museveni for his support, especially in advocating for the lifting of sanctions and promoting regional peace and security.

Emphasizing the importance of convening the overdue Joint Permanent Commission, President Mnangagwa highlighted the role of COMESA membership in boosting trade and cooperation on peace and security matters.

He expressed optimism for Amoru’s tenure, seeing it as an avenue to further strengthen the ties between Uganda and Zimbabwe and to champion African unity and solidarity on the international stage.
