2026 Elections: Museveni warns politicians after meeting with High Command

President Yoweri Museveni has sent a strong warning to politicians ahead of Uganda's 2026 elections, urging them to abandon practices that intimidate citizens and undermine the democratic process.

In a message posted on social media, Museveni revealed that he chaired the UPDF High Command meeting and the Defence Forces Council meeting at State House Entebbe, where he discussed the importance of disciplined democracy.

During the meeting, Museveni emphasised that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) advocates for disciplined democracy, warning that the use of bad language or hooliganism would not be tolerated.

He stated, "Politicians engaging in practices that intimidate citizens must stop! This is not the African way."

His comments come as the country braces for the upcoming 2026 elections, with political tensions rising ahead of the polls.

The President made it clear that the security agencies were aware of these issues, and that such behaviour would come to an end.

The President further called on Uganda’s youth to uphold the values of the NRM and understand the legacy of the country's pioneers. He urged them to embrace the spirit of 'uzalendo'—working for the betterment of the nation.

Museveni stressed the importance of young people recognising their role in ensuring the continuity of a stable and peaceful democracy.

He reminded them that, as future leaders, they must set the right example and contribute positively to the nation's growth.
