When this reporter contacted Brig. Kulayige, he confirmed the new appointments on phone saying the commander-in-chief deemed it necessary to have these changes in the army.

The new appointments come at the backdrop of the death of State Minister of Labour, Employment and Industries, Retired Colonel Charles Okello Engola Machodwogo, who was murdered by his bodyguard, Pte Wilson Sabiiti, on Tuesday, May 2 2023.

Residents who witnessed the shooting said the now deceased bodyguard fired gunshots in the air after killing the minister while shouting his frustrations with Government over poor and delayed pay.

The residents said he entered one of the saloons where he took his own life thereafter.

The UPDF, through its deputy spokesperson, Deo Akiiki, however, questioned the narrative that the bodyguard did this because of poor and delayed pay, explaining that Sabiiti and many of his colleagues were owed only one month’s salary.
