Museveni commits to supporting Muslim supreme council’s development initiatives

The delegation, led by Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramathan Mubajje, included Dr. Muhammad Lubega Kisambira, Chairperson of UMSC, Sheikh Obeid Kamulegeya, and Hajjat Sophia Safina Kenyangi, Chairperson of the National Muslim Women Council.

The UMSC leaders expressed gratitude to President Museveni for his unwavering support for unity, security, and socio-economic transformation for Muslims and all Ugandans.

They appreciated his financial contributions to Islamic activities, especially the constitutional review and UMSC elections.

Mufti Mubajje highlighted the council's support for the Parish Development Model (PDM) and other government wealth creation programs, reflecting UMSC’s commitment to socio-economic development.

Sheikh Mubajje unveiled UMSC's plans to launch a coffee/cocoa planting initiative across Uganda’s ten Muslim regions, starting in August.

The initiative aims to plant at least 200 acres in each region to help eradicate poverty.

He requested government support to ensure the project's success and sought President Museveni’s backing for the Union of East African Muslim Councils Conference in September and the "UMSC @ 50" event in December, which will host over 2,000 attendees, including 40 Muftis from around the world.

Additionally, Sheikh Mubajje requested support for the Uganda Women Muslim Council function in October, aimed at empowering Muslim women.

President Museveni welcomed the UMSC's support for the government’s "prosperity for all" programs and emphasised the need to guide youths, particularly those associated with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), towards constructive paths in life.

President Museveni reiterated the importance of religious institutions like the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council in promoting wealth creation and economic empowerment.

He pledged support for the UMSC's activities and initiatives, affirming his commitment to fostering unity and socio-economic development in collaboration with the UMSC and other religious organisations.

The meeting also included UMSC Secretary General Hadji Abbas Ssekyanzi Muluubya and other guests.
