MPs ordered to refund money received for cancelled U.S trip

Members of Parliament have been asked to refund their per diem after a trip to the United States was cancelled.

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi on Tuesday gave the directive amid fears of coronavirus outbreak.

MPs were set to attend a United Nations meeting on gender equality in New York, USA.

The legislators who were to attend the meeting were directed to refund the per diem they had already received ahead of the trip.

New York City reported its first case of Covid-19 after a 39-year-old woman tested positive for the virus.

Preparedness in Kenya

On Sunday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo confirmed the State’s first case of the coronavirus, saying that the woman contracted the virus while travelling in Iran.

“The patient has respiratory symptoms, but is not in serious condition and has been in a controlled situation," Cuomo's statement read in part.

News that the coronavirus had landed in the city raised the level of anxiety across the highly populated city.

Meanwhile, in Kenya, citizens have been asked not to panic as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread across the globe.

The government has stated that it's putting in measures after an executive order was issued by the President last week.
