The contested land is in Kiragura Parish, Kitoba Sub County in the district of Hoima.

The Minister's involvement comes from a petition submitted by local residents earlier this month, alleging threats made by the former Deputy Prime Minister.

Henry Kajura, now aged 89, previously served as Deputy Prime Minister until 2016. He also served as Minister of Public Service.

The petition outlined to Minister Mayanja that Mr. Kajura had obtained three separate titles for the same piece of land.

One title dates back to 1971, while the other two were processed in 2007 and 2020.

The 2020 title was processed around February during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period when title issuance was temporarily halted according to the residents' plea to the Minister.

During a recent visit to the contested land on Thursday, Minister Mayanja announced, "We have made the decision to cancel the most recent two titles.”

He further assured the community, saying, "As a result, all of you should take your place and settle on your land without fear of disturbance. The government will dispatch surveyors to determine your boundaries and will furnish you with titles at no expense."

Regarding Mr. Kajura, Minister Mayanja suggested that he should present his 1971 title to the Ministry of Lands to explore possible options. However, he stressed that these discussions would have no bearing on the tenants' rights. Their concerns had been successfully addressed, according to the Minister.

Hon Mayanja also issued a directive to the Resident District Commissioner of Hoima and local law enforcement, instructing them to detain any member of Kajura's family who endeavors to intimidate the families residing on the land.

"Even if someone entertains the notion of disturbing you, they will face legal consequences. The government is resolute in safeguarding your interests," he affirmed.

During the event, Mr. Elijah Kaliisa Abooki, the Chairperson of the Kitoba Sub County Local Council (LC3), disclosed that this particular land dispute had escalated to the point where three other ministers had recently intervened.
