Womens march will go on tomorrow as planned after police gave the green light to the peaceful demonstrations in protest of the kidnaps, murder, torture of women and children in Uganda.
The permission to was granted after the organisers of the march, Women’s Protest Working Group, petitioned court seeking its intervention to bar police from denying them the right to a peaceful demonstration.
In a statement issued on Friday by Uganda Police Force, organisers have been urged to get clearance from Kampala City Council Authority of the venues and routes intended to be used.
Authorities have advised demonstrators to "stick to designated routes" and "avoid committing any offences related to criminality or public nuisance".
Police maintain that they will halt the demonstration or procession if it breaches the "agreed upon principles or becomes disorderly or riotous".
Hundreds of activists on Saturday intend to march from the Centenary Park to Railways Grounds along Jinja Road to raise awareness and express displeasure in the government's failure to address the rampant murders and kidnaps of women and children.
Since February, at least 82 cases of kidnap and murders involving women have been recorded and 10 killed.
