Manhunt for 14 suspects who escaped from a police cell in a rare ‘prison break’ way
Police in Kyotera District have launched a manhunt for 14 suspects who escaped from police cell on Wednesday night.
The suspects were facing criminal charges ranging from theft, defilement, assault, gambling and drug use.
They escaped through a hole which they dug inside the police cell.
Deputy Regional Police Commander and police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi says it’s still unclear how the group of suspects dug the hole inside the police cell.
Their escape was realized on Thursday morning during a routine check and a junior officer who preferred anonymity believes the suspects’ escape was aided.
"It is believed someone aided the escape and the officers who were on duty have already recorded statements about the incident," he said.
Kyotera District residents who were to be witnesses against these suspects during prosecution are now living in fear as police Flying Squad intensifies the manhunt.
This becomes the second police cell escape at the station since October 2017
