A man who was seen in a viral video beating a child mercilessly at school is in trouble.
Police have summoned him to the station to record a statement after public outcry.
Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire says the man in the viral video is the victim’s father and not a teacher as it had appeared to be in the video.
School authorities told police that the parent had come to the school after his four-year-old child was reported missing from school and later found.
"I have talked to him and he confirmed that he was the one captured in the video and that he was punishing his son for escaping from school. I have, however, asked him to go to the station and talk to our officers, " Owoyesigyire said.
The child reportedly got lost his way to school since he is always escorted by his 6-year-old sibling.
He ended up at Mulago School for the Deaf and was later taken to Mulago police post, according to Officer In-charge Old Mulago Police Daniel Kyeyune.
Corporal punishment in schools is an offence that attracts at least three years, a fine not exceeding UGX20,000 or both.
