A man has filed a petition against Watoto Church over what he called "prohibitive conditions" before exchanging vows.
Mr. Micheal Aboneka says the church requested him to provide a letter of consent from the bride's parents, pastor’s endorsement of fitness for marriage, HIV status disclosure document tested at one of the specified hospitals and a counselling report.
He states that the mandatory requirements "violate his fundamental humans rights" and "contravene the supreme law".
"The letter of blessing from the bride’s parents or guardians offends the right to free will and consent to marriage," part of the affidavit reads.
“I further believe that the mandatory requirements are not founded in any law as they are a mere innovation by the respondent"
Mr. Aboneka wants court to issue a temporary injunction barring the church from officiating any weddings using such requirements.
The petition also hope that the court will consider "annulling all marriages the church has conducted under the same requirements".
